Web & Mobile Prototyping for Designers | Savah
💡A prototype is more of a proof of concept that allows you to validate a user interface idea. The following are the reasons why it is crucial for web and mobile app prototyping:
  • Creation of a compelling vision: In order for companies to take a dive into quality and services provided by an app, they need a prototype that brings possible experience of the final product.
  • Prototypes reduce mis-understandings: Prototyping for web and mobile apps reduce the need for people and stakeholders to imaginary ‘fill the missing gap’ by creating a picture on what is about to be built and its end goal.
  •  Prototypes Limit Scope Creep: Produce a products’ visual representation in its early days, hence helps stakeholders identify a problem at its early stages to allow for easy adjustments.
  • Prototypes Are Perfect for Testing: Users are able to try out building services before the projects starts.
  • Prototypes encourage experimentation and iteration: Digital, pixels are cheap and affordable. They make it easier to experiment and explore different approaches until the perfect result is formulated.

Stop doing user interviews. Start having conversations.
🧒There’s an art to interviews, and really, I think of it as being a sister to the art of conversation. I think when people are learning how to run user interviews, there appears this balancing act between ‘user interview skills’ and ‘social skills’. Sometimes social skills is the part that falls into the cracks when you’re learning the basic skills of user interviewing.
If you can level up by remembering your user interview skills and also relaxing and having a conversation, the person you’re talking to is going to be that much more engaged. If they’re engaged, what they tell you will be more natural, your insights will be deeper and learnings more nuanced. If they’re disengaged, you’ll get your yes, no answers, but they won’t feel like going deep, sharing their feelings, and opening up to you.
The followings 6 tips can help you to with your next user interview.
  1. Little things matter. When they arrive
  2. Try and create a smooth flow between questions, by engaging and actively listening
  3. Embrace non-formal language. “I was like F&*# that!”
  4. Try and find out what they’re enthusiastic about
  5. Build in time for chatty warmup questions
  6. Be open to learning stuff you didn’t expect, and going off-topic

đŸ“±Performance plays an important role in shaping how customers perceive your brand, and may affect a customer’s purchase intent. A 2013 study of the effects of mobile web performance on user emotional engagement found that a mere 500 millisecond delay resulted in a 26% increase in user frustration, and an 8% drop in engagement. In the same study,
Slow sites dramatically reduced the measured emotional dimensions around purchase intent and brand functionality.
Perceived performance is the only manner of performance that need apply to our outlook of the web. Common amongst most consumers is a misinformed vision of a near future in which all networks are, at minimum, LTE capable and that network latency will soon be a thing of the past. But with billions of new mobile consumers on the rise in developing countries where network speeds are a significant obstacle, the struggle to build performant user experiences has never been more real.
The followings can help you to change user perceptions about the speed.
  1. Embrace the now: Instant load transitions
  2. The visual power of immutability
  3. Mindful motion
  4. Persistence is key

🛬 Airport executives had failed to see the true problem at hand — a human propensity for loathing unoccupied time. While wait times were down, the walking journey from the terminal gate to the luggage claim was a short trot, so travellers spent most of their time waiting. By strategically moving the arrival gates farther away from the baggage carousel, they increased traveller walking time to the baggage claim, and nearly eliminated any unoccupied time. The complaints stopped. This is a real example of how the performance that people feel is more important than “under-the-hood” performance. An objective measure of performance ignores what truly matters: the customer journey.

Here is how UX Design Integrates with Agile and Scrum
Integrating UX and Design into the scrum process. It’s a challenge that continues to plague most organisations mainly because the reason scrum was brought in was not to do more thoughtful, customer-centric work but rather to ship more code faster.
  1. The product backlog contains the pieces of the broader vision that are not going to be worked on in the current sprint. 
  2. Sprint planning is the day-to-day level planning effort for the team. 
  3. The tactical Design work (capital D to serve as an umbrella for the various facets of product design) has to go into the tactical backlog
  4. Critically missing from the core scrum team, and necessary for the integration of UX design, is a full-time designer on the team.
  5. Sprint review is an opportunity to take a look, together as a team, at the output the team generated during the sprint.
